As Helicopter Moms we love our children and want to ensure their happiness. I have a teenage son who will be attending college next year.  I don’t know how I’m going to manage without hovering over and protecting him. It’ll be extremely difficult, but I know he needs to go in order to grow.  I invite you to follow me on this journey, which will be full of twists and turns as you get a glimpse of my life as an “Extreme Helicopter Mom”.

How this all started?

This all started with the word Mom.  As a noun it means one’s mother.  Synonyms for the word mother include mamma, momma, mom, mam, mum, ma, and mommy.  Mamma stands out because it’s the mammary gland within female mammals that’s utilized to nourish their young.  Mamma is the milk-secreting organ of female mammals: the breast of women, the udder of cows.

Then we added the word helicopter, or a type of aircraft that derives both lift and propulsion from one or two sets of horizontally revolving overhead rotors.

Merge the two together and thus we have a new word Helicoptermamma!
