Health Insurance

If you’re a mom and you have children under the age of 26, you can still cover them under your health insurance plan.  Open enrollment and updating dependent information is here and if your current employer is requesting that you submit proof of dependency by August 15, 2017 – then you need to submit all of the required paperwork so that your kids can remain covered under your medical insurance plans.  I don’t know what’s going to happen with the insurance reforms of the future…particularly OBAMA CARE but I do know that while our sons and daughters are in college…they must have adequate health insurance coverage.

Many colleges and universities have health centers on campus that students may utilize either free of charge or at a discounted rate.  However, anything that spans outside the range of “Urgent Care”, meaning “Emergency Care” or “Inpatient Care” or “Hospital Ambulatory Care”…these patient classifications require a sound medical insurance plan.  If you’re looking to enroll in a medical plan, visit one of the following…

Living Forever

As a mom, I wish I could live forever to be here and take care or my children.  However, we know that we cannot live forever but through purchasing life insurance I truly feel that I can leave something behind for my family when I am gone.  I certainly want them to be able to continue living their lives without stress and headaches, so I’ve purchased life insurance that will sustain them when I am gone.  So many people often don’t think about purchasing life insurance until it’s too late.  Don’t wait…start today if you haven’t already…

Fidelity Life established in 1896 and offers coverage for adults and children.  They don’t require medical or health exams for many of their policies and they offer affordable monthly, quarterly or annual billing rates.  Go to

http://quotes.fidelitylife.com/

Check out their rates and be sure to purchase some life insurance so that your family will be taken care of should anything happen to you.    This is my way of living on forever through my children.

The Flu

I’ve been sick in bed with the flu for the past four days.  Not sure how I got sick, but it has been no fun.  I wanted to ride my bike and get about 5 miles of exercise yesterday, but my body was so weak from this flu bug that I was simply unable to do anything.  Maybe by tomorrow I can get a nice bike ride.  Mucinex is my new best friend.  I hope that all of you are feeling well.  Don’t let the change in weather get the best of you, stay hydrated and take your vitamins.

Black Friday

I know most of you have enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday with family and close friends.  My son stayed at his college dormitory because he had exams next week and said he wanted to study for them.  So, instead of turkey he baked a chicken.  I think we all need to start thinking about healthy eating during and after the holidays.  Especially if you have relatives and friends who love to binge eat during the holidays…any excuse to gain 10 pounds.  Well if we eat too much, we can always get back in the gym five days each week and burn off those extra calories.

Donald Trump

Well the people have spoken and they elected Donald Trump for our 45th president.  I can’t wait to see how his first 100 days in office goes.  The Clinton campaign is in shock, along with the rest of America.  However, every vote was counted and he came out the winner!

Halloween

pumpkins

I am looking forward to Halloween this year. Not sure what costume I will select this year, but my son is too old for dressing up for Halloween.  I miss those years when he was in grammar school and he actually got excited to go shopping at Wal-Mart for his costume.  Now, he’s studying in college and doesn’t even mention the word Halloween.  Also, there’s a funny movie coming out – Boo! A Madea Halloween. Woohoo…loads of fun!!!

“Tyler Perry writes, produces, directs, and stars in the latest project with the popular character Madea. Ozzie Areu and Will Areu will also be producers on the film. Boo! A Madea Halloween will be released in one of the more competitive release dates this year, with a whopping six movies opening in wide release. This comedy will be going up against Paramount’s Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, 20th Century Fox’s Keeping Up With the Joneses, Focus Features’ A Monster Calls, Universal’s Ouija: Origin of Evil and Pure Flix’s I’m Not Ashamed.”

If you are in the mood for some Halloween laughs, then don’t miss this film.  Email me with your opinion of the film after you see it.  Enjoy!

Miss Peregrine’s

miss peregrine's

You’ve gotta see this film….Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.  I am a huge move buff and it is my opinion that you are never too old to enjoy a great children’s film.  As a mom of a college student, who no longer enjoys these types of films (because he’s over 18 and in college) I enjoy these films more than the kids.

Find your nearest movie theater, take the kids or your best friend…maybe drag your husband along (if you can) and enjoy this film.  The cinematography is beautiful…it’s a fun movie.  Enjoy!

Healthy Eats…

uurth cafe

Trying my best to eat a healthy meal today.  One of my favorite places to eat is Urth Caffe in Pasadena, CA.  They also have a great location in Beverly Hills and the food is delicious.  The salads are fresh, the iced organic green tea is simply the best green tea I’ve ever tasted.

Urth Caffe

I couldn’t resist the chocolate chip cookie and lemonade…but you’ve gotta try their organic green tea!!!!

College Students and Eating Healthy

img_0046

My friend’s daughter is overweight.  College did nothing but add to her stress and she comforted herself with fast food.  College can be life-changing for many, as some move out-of-state and far away from home to pursue their educational goals.  But, I think as parents we should try to help our kids to refrain from junk food and eat as healthy as possible.  Studying late nights for an exam or getting off work and then rushing to a class, can be hectic and many college students simply don’t have the time to prepare and cook healthy meals.  I’ve suggested to my son that he eat Salmon and lots of salads. He also drinks a gallon of water each and every day which aids in his healthy lifestyle choices.  I know that losing weight is never easy and I highly suggest viewing a “diet” as a “lifestyle change” and not simply a “temporary change in eating habits.”

Losing weight

The holiday season is rapidly approaching and weight loss is the most important thing on my mind right now.  I have to lose weight, so that I can really enjoy the holidays with my family and friends.  It’s no fun when hosting holiday parties and not being able to enjoy the good food.  So, I am concentrating on losing weight the old-fashioned way…diet, exercise and also reducing my caloric intake.

Weight Watchers

 Weight Watchers

A few of my close friends and family have joined weight watchers and they have already begun shedding the extra pounds.  But, I am not going to join weight watchers.  I want to try to conquer my weight problems on my own.  I am planning to workout at a gym 5 days each week.  I plan to drink tons of water and will also substitute two meals each day, with a meal replacement drink.  Watch for updates in future posts regarding my weight loss progress.  Also, feel free to send in your before and after photos, so I can post them for you.  Good Luck MOMS!

Alcohol and College Students

WP952016081195139522953495Pro

My son is over the age of 21 and I know that on his 21st birthday he actually went out and purchased alcohol with his friends.  He was completely honest with me and said, “Mom, I’ve tried beer and Vodka and it did nothing for me”.  Said he “hated the taste and how it made him feel sluggish and sleepy afterwards”.  I think if we have an “open dialogue” with our children about alcohol, then it will prevent them from drinking alcohol without our knowledge.  I’ve told my son that he can talk to me about ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING.  It’s crucial that we allow our sons and daughters to feel comfortable about opening up to us as parents.  I hate to see the number of drunk drivers (DUI’s) in the Unites States (college students), who really didn’t have to be in a “drink and drive” situation.  But, most of the time they are afraid to ask their parents for a ride, for fear of retribution.  As a mom, I think we should make our kids feel comfortable so they can open up to us and tell us everything and anything.  This is the only way we can help our kids lead successful lives.

Don’t drink and drive, call a friend, Uber, Lyft or just simply walk home.
