Miss Peregrine’s

miss peregrine's

You’ve gotta see this film….Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.  I am a huge move buff and it is my opinion that you are never too old to enjoy a great children’s film.  As a mom of a college student, who no longer enjoys these types of films (because he’s over 18 and in college) I enjoy these films more than the kids.

Find your nearest movie theater, take the kids or your best friend…maybe drag your husband along (if you can) and enjoy this film.  The cinematography is beautiful…it’s a fun movie.  Enjoy!

Surfing, Are You Serious?!!

surfing lessonsDoesn’t this look like fun?  It’s better for the kids to take surfing lessons, rather than go out into the ocean to actually learn how to surf.  Stay warm as you watch these kids having fun surfing.  Mother knows it’s better to practice first before doing the real thing.  Those waves can be a little crazy.

Black Thursday

Thanksgiving Day is supposed to be spent with family, close friends and a Butterball Turkey – wrong!  I did however, spend this past Thanksgiving holiday with my family and very close friends and yes – we did enjoy a nice turkey with some delicious cranberry dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, peach cobbler, pumpkin pie, nice white wine and oh yes – Walmart!  After our wonderful and long-awaited dinner, my son mentioned that he’d like to purchase a new Samsung 40 inch Smart TV.  Wal-mart was having a sale on this particular item that night.  How convenient?  So, after we finished dinner and reminisced about past Thanksgiving holiday dinners, took photographs, laughed and then cried – my son dragged me out of the house to Walmart.  Bad move….

We arrived in the parking lot of Wal-mart at about 5:08 PM.  There was already a line forming at the front door of about 400 people.  There were kids of all ages, mothers, fathers, and folks that didn’t look like they even knew where they were or why?  Just a mob of folks running to the door and trying their best to get in line.  So, as we parked, I asked my son, “What’s the line for?”  He replied, “Mom, it’s like this every year”.  I wouldn’t know, because I never in my life have gone shopping on Thanksgiving holiday.  I usually eat, drink a nice glass of wine and go to bed.  But, that was not happening tonight.  No thanks to my wonderful son.

There were so many people, the local news stations were out there reporting the large number of folks who were just going crazy over the sale prices.  It wasn’t even Black Friday, it was my Black Thursday!  It was scary….

flat screen tvCustomers who waited the 3-4 hour wait in line, were then awarded with the big prize.  Being told to take your vehicle around the back of the store for package pick-up.  That was a whole different kind of nightmare!  It was a feeding frenzy!!!

black thursday 005

This was our package claim – we needed this along with our store receipt, proof of purchase – before we could circle our car around back to pick up our prize.

samsung 40 inch

The grand prize was 4-5 plus hours of standing in line, pushing and shoving and finally getting what we came for – the 40 inch Samsung Smart TV.  Was it worth it?  For me NO!  For my son, YES!  He got his TV and I got 5 hours of headache…Never again!  No more Black Thursdays for me!

A Thousand Words

boston red sox

This picture is worth a 1,000 words.  Baseball is a bat-and-ball game that takes place between two teams of 9 men (usually) who take turns hitting the bat (batting) and trying to catch the ball (fielding).  There’s a catcher, pitcher, first, second, short stop (in between third base), right field, left field and center field.  Who has lived in America and not attended a baseball game?  I honestly don’t believe there is such a person.  Baseball is as American as apple pie.

fenway park

I remember when I was a little girl and my brothers would ask my parents if they could go to a baseball game.  Back then, over 20 years ago baseball tickets were about 10 bucks, now the costs is more than triple.  But, anyone who’s ever attended a baseball game, would tell you – the ticket price is well worth the hassle.  You can sit and watch the fun and excitement with your family from the stands and the kids can eat hot dogs and the entire family will surely have a great time.  I am so happy the Boston Red Sox won it all!  If you missed it – then please try to watch it – it was one of the best games I’ve ever seen in my life.  Go Sox!!!

Test Drive

Today we are test driving the Audi A4 as a possible new car purchase for my son Arthur.  He just started college and he will surely need a nice new car to get him to the campus, library, gym, mall and back.  Take a look and tell me what you think?  Also, please email me with cars you’ve purchased as a first car for your college-bound son or daughter.  I’m interested to hear what you have to say.

Memorial Day 2013

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday, which occurs every year on the final Monday of May.  Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in the military service.  It typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end.

What are your plans this Memorial Day?  How do you plan to show your appreciation for the men and women who died while serving in our  armed forces?  If you have photos of loved ones who are currently serving or who’ve served in the past, feel free to email me and I will post them on the blog.

Be safe for the holiday, because there are always people who think celebrating the holidays means getting drunk and then getting behind the wheel of a car – so be careful.

Cheesecake Factory

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of having dinner at the Cheesecake Factory.  I noticed on their menu they don’t just have regular hamburgers – they have Glamburgers.  The burgers are so tempting that you have to order one of them on your next visit.  I always order just one plain slice of cheesecake to top things off and boy does the cheesecake rock!

76 Degrees

It was a beautiful and sunny 76 degrees in La Jolla, CA today.  We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at The Shores Hotel Restaurant just a few steps away from La Jolla beach.  Check out the pictures and see if you wouldn’t trade places with me (fun in the sun weather) versus freezing your butt off in the Midwest.

Was a blast.  The food was about a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10; the service was great and the view was breath-taking!
